Size I or 9 (5.5 mm) crochet hook
Tapestry needle
8 - 2.5 oz. skeins Lion Brand Micro Spun (#100, Lily White, is shown), or other yarn of a
light or DK weight.
Ch 3, join with sl st to form ring.
1st row: Ch 3, 7 dc in ring.
2nd row: Ch 3, turn. 3 dc in sp between last 2 dc in previous row. Skip 3 st, 6 dc in sp
between 4th and 5th dc of previous row (corner formed). Skip 3 st, 4 dc between ch 3 and
1st dc of previous row.3rd row and beyond: Ch 3, turn. 3 dc in sp between last 2 dc in
previous row.
*2 dc in sp between clusters (of previous row).
Yo, insert hook through both loops of center dc in cluster two rows below.
Yo, pull through 2 st on hook, yo, pull through next stitch on hook.
Yo, pull through 2 st on hook.
Yo, pull through remaining 2 st on hook.*
For 4th row and beyond, repeat between * until reaching 6 dc cluster that forms corner.
6 dc between 3rd and 4th dc of corner made in previous row.
For 4th row and beyond, repeat between * until reaching the last 4 st of the row..
4 dc in sp between ch 3 and 1st dc of previous row.
Edging: Ch 2, turn. 2 sc in sp between last 2 dc of previous row.
*2 sc in next sp between clusters of previous row.
Yo, insert hook through both top loops of center dc in cluster below.
Yo, pull through 2 st on hook; yo, pull through 2 st on hook; yo, pull through 2 remaining st on
hook.*
Repeat between * through last sp between cluster before corner. 6 dc in sp between 3rd and
4th dc in corner cluster.
Repeat between * to last sp between clusters before end.
5 sc in sp between last two dc in row.
*Sc around last stitch of cluster in next row, dc around last two stitches in that same cluster.
2 sc around last stitch of cluster in next row, dc around last two stitches in that same cluster.*
Repeat between * to center neck edge (ch 3 ring that began shawl). 1 sc in that ring.
**Dc around last two stitches in next cluster. Sc around last stitch in that same cluster.
Dc around last two stitches in next cluster. 2 sc around last stitch in that same cluster.**
Repeat between ** to end . 2 sc in last stitch (where 3 sc started the edging row). Join with
sl st to top of ch 2 that started the edging row. Fasten off.
