Mrs. D's Kitchen

I do not like to cook, but I cook a lot.
On a budget.  For a family.  Every day.

Here are the tips, tricks, and recipes that
I've come to rely on after 20 years.

Hope they'll be helpful!
Essential "Hardware": 2 big pots with lids; 2 medium-sized pots with lids; 1 small pot with a lid; 2 frying pans
with lids; 9" x 13" baking pan; set of Corning Ware; spatula; wooden spoons; set of dry measuring cups; set of
measuring spoons; glass measuring cup; cutting board; paring knife; medium-sized cutting knife; chef knife;
peeler; garlic press; colander; ladle; cookie sheet; kitchen scissors; whisk; mixing bowls.

Essential "Software": The items I keep on hand at all times...flour; sugar; salt; pepper; onions; garlic;
canned tomato sauce; eggs; milk; dried ginger, basil, parsley, and oregano; onion powder; garlic powder; soy
sauce; vegetable oil; extra-virgin olive oil; balsamic, white and red wine vinegar; beef and chicken bouillon
cubes; cornstarch.

Nice-to-Have Electronics: Crockpot (slow cooker); food processor; stand mixer; can opener; knife
sharpener; and most indispensable of all -- coffeepot with timer, so the coffee's ready at 5:30 a.m.!

The Recipes:  Each of these recipes makes about four servings.  The recipes are listed in alphabetical order.

How I Shop:  Every week I try to get to our local farmer's market on Monday morning to pick out lots of fruits
and vegetables.  Then I usually sit down with the circular and see what kinds of meats, etc. are on sale, and
plan for the week around those items.  I go to one grocery store (since I can make my list according to the
layout of the store and get the weekly shopping done as quickly as possible, because if there's one thing I
hate more than cooking, it's grocery shopping!)  About every two weeks, it's worthwhile to make a trip to the
warehouse store (mine's Costco) for things like eggs, milk, orange juice, half-and-half, canned tomatoes, juice
boxes for the kids' lunches, etc.)
