| Ch 274. Row 1: Dc in 5th ch from hook. *Ch 1, skip 1 ch, dc in next ch.* Repeat between * to end. 135 ch 1 spaces in row. Row 2: Ch 2, turn. Allow ch 2 to serve as first dc in row. Dc in each stitch across. 271 stitches in row. Row 3: Ch 2, turn. *Dc in each of next 3 stitches. Ch 2, skip 2 st, dc in next st.* Repeat between * as far as length of shawl allows, ending with a dc in the last stitch. The filet pattern is one solid block followed by three open blocks. Rows 4 and 5: Continue in the filet pattern as shown in the close- up detail below: |

| The solid blocks are arranged diagonally. For example, Row 3 starts with a solid block; Row 4 will end with an open block after a solid block. Row 5 will begin with two open blocks. Row 6: Ch 2, turn. Dc in each of next 270 stitches. |
| The shawl is worked by repeating Rows 1 - 6 until the desired width is reached. Repeat Row 1 as the final row. Do not fasten off. Edging: (First Row) Ch 2, 3 hdc in corner sp. 2 hdc around last stitch in each row along short side. 5 hdc in corner sp. 2 hdc in each ch 1 sp along long side. 5 hdc in corner sp. 2 hdc around last stitch in each row along second short side. 5 hdc in corner sp. 2 hdc in each ch 1 sp along second long side. 2 hdc in corner sp where edging was started. Join with sl st to top of ch 2 that serves as first stitch in edging row. (Second Row). Ch 2, turn. 2 dc in same stitch that ch 2 comes from. Work 1 hdc in each hdc all the way around, working 3 dc's in each corner stitch. Join with sl st to top of ch 2 that serves as first stitch in this second edging row. Fasten off. |
