Aunt Terry's Slipper Socks I
Size H or 8 crochet hook.

Less than 5 oz. total worsted weight yarn.

TOE:

Round 1:  Ch 8.  Sc in second ch from hook (8th ch counts as first stitch in round, and there
will eventually be 3 stitches in this ch).  Sc in next 5 ch.  3 sc in next (end) ch.  Sc in each of
next 6 ch (across bottom of foundation chain) to end of round.  Mark last stitch.  Do not join.  
16 st in round.

Round 2:  2 sc in next st (which is the ch 1 that started Round 1).  Sc n next 7 st.  2 sc in next
st.  Sc in next 7 st to end of round.  18 st in round.

Round 3:  Sc in next st.  2 sc in next st.  Sc in next 8 st.  2 sc in next st.  Sc in next 7 st to end
of round.  20 st in round.

Round 4:  Sc in next 2 st.  2 sc in next st.  Sc in next 9 st.  2 sc in next st.  Sc in next 7 st to
end of round.  22 st in round.

Round 5:  Sc in next 3 st.  2 sc in next st.  Sc in next 10 st.  2 sc in next st.  Sc in next 7 st to
end of round.  24 st in round.

Round 6:  Sc in next 4 st.  2 sc in next st.  Sc in next 11 st.  2 sc in next st.  Sc in next 7 st to
end of round.  26 st in round.

Round 7:  Sc in next 5 st.  2 sc n next st.  Sc in next 12 st.  2 sc in next st.  Sc in next 7 st to
end of round.  Mark last stitch in round.  28 st in round.  Do not join or fasten off.  Continue
with Sock Body below.

SOCK BODY:  
Size information is noted as Large (Medium, Small).  A large would be
for a woman's shoe size 9/10; medium, 7/8; and small, 5/6.

Round 1:  Attach a new color if desired.  Esc in next 28 st to end of round.  Esc stands for
extended single crochet.

Rounds 2 - 12 (10, 8):  Esc in next 28 st.

Round 13 (11, 9):  Esc in next 8 st.  2 esc in next st.  Esc in next 13 st.  2 esc in next st.  Esc
in next 5 st to end of round.  30 st in round.

Round 14 (12, 10):  Esc in next 9 st.  2 esc in next st.  Esc in next 14 st.  2 esc in next st.  Esc
in next 5 st to end of round.  32 st in round.

Rounds 15/16 (13/14, 11/12):  Esc in next 27 st (to the center of the second increase made
during Round 14 (12, 10).  Ch 16.  Skip 16 st.  Esc in next st (mark this stitch; this will be the
new round-beginning stitch).  Esc2tog next 2 st.  Esc in next 10 st.  Esc2tog next 2 st.  Esc in
next st and across the 16 st of the chain worked earlier in this round.  30 st in round.

Round 17 (15, 13).  Esc in next st.  Esc2tog next 2 st (which are the two on either side of the
first esc2tog in the previous round).  Esc in next 9 st.  Esc2tog next 2 st (which are the two on
either side of the second esc2tog in the previous round).  Esc in next 16 st to end of round.  
28 st in round.

Round 18 (16, 14):  Esc in each of next 28 st.

Round 19 (17, 15):  Esc in each of next 23 st.  Sc in each of next 3 st.  Sl st in each of next 2
st.  Do not join or fasten off.  Continue with cuff.

CUFF:

Row 1:  Ch 2, turn.  Dc in next 27 st.  Join w/sl st to top of turning ch.

Row 2:  Ch 2, turn.  Alternate fpdc and bpdc around next 27 st.  Join w/sl st to top of turning
ch.

Row 3:  Ch 2, turn.  Alternate bpdc and fpdc around next 27 st.  Join w/sl st to top of turning
ch.

Row 4:  Ch 2, turn.  Alternate fpdc and bpdc around next 27 st.  Join w/sl st to top of turning
ch.

Row 5:  Ch 2, turn.  Alternate bphdc and fphdc around next 27 st.  Join w/sl st to top of
turning ch.  Fasten off.  Sew in end.

AFTERTHOUGHT HEEL:

Hold sock toe down with bottom facing you.  Attach heel color to second st along bottom of
heel opening as seen in
Figure 1.

1.  Sc across bottom of heel opening to within last st.  Sc3tog that last st, the post of the stitch
that forms the left side of the heel opening, and the first stitch of the top of the heel opening as
seen in
Figure 2.  NOTE:  The text in Figure 2 should read sc3tog instead of sc2tog.

Sc across top of heel opening to within last st.  Sc3tog that last st, the post of the stitch that
forms the right side of the heel opening, and the first stitch of the bottom of the heel opening
(i.e., the stitch before the stitch that begins this round).  Do not join.

Rounds 2 - 7:  Sc in each st across bottom of heel opening, working a sc2tog to combine the
two stitches on either side of the first sc2tog in the previous round.  Sc in each st across top of
heel opening, working a sc2tog to combine the two stitches on either side of the second
sc2tog in the previous round.

Fasten off at the end of Round 7, leaving a long enough tail to turn the sock inside out and
stitch up the heel opening.
